FAQ about how the Mobility service fees work
When making a call outside your local calling area, airtime or data roaming charges may apply. Airtime is charged by the minute (airtime charges are rounded to the next minute) and a minimum charge of one minute applies to all incoming and outgoing calls.
Note that if you start a call in your local calling area and end it outside that area, the place where the call was started determines the price of the call.
If you receive calls within your local calling area and your line is busy or you don’t answer, the calls received are free if you subscribe to Voicemail.
Similarly, you won’t be charged for someone leaving you a voicemail if you are on the Videotron network. However, if you’re on a partner network, airtime is calculated when callers leave a voicemail and there may also be a charge if you’re roaming.
Regular roaming rates apply when you exceed the territory limit of your plan or the territory covered by Videotron or partner networks.
When you reach a specific usage threshold, you’ll receive a text message notifying you that you’ve almost reached the threshold or that you’ve exceeded your limit if you have a Data Add-on for the following services:
- Fixed-rate Internet on your mobile
- Fixed-rate Internet on your tablet
You’ll receive a text message notifying you that you’ll be transferred to the next threshold until the end of the current month if you have a Data Add-on for the following services:
- Flexible-rate Internet on your mobile
- Flexible-rate Internet on your tablet
The first notice will only be sent if you have a Data Add-on of over 100 MB. You will also receive a message when you first use the following billed services:
- Internet on your mobile
- Internet on your tablet
- Messaging on your mobile
- Messaging on your tablet
Warning: Please note that you may receive notices of limitations or device use prohibition after your Data Add-on limit is exceeded if you exceed the limit using Internet on your mobile or Internet on your tablet.
Long-distance and data roaming charges may apply to certain numbers such as helplines, information services, and certain emergency services.
However, 911 calls are free because a monthly municipal tax already applies. Since August 1, 2016, all phone numbers have been charged a monthly municipal tax of $0.46. The tax goes toward funding 911 emergency centres. It applies to all landline and wireless telephone services offered to individuals, business people and large businesses in Quebec.
Following a process involving municipal associations, the City of Montreal, as well as representatives of 911 centres and telephone companies, legislative provisions required to implement the measure were proposed by the Minister of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy and passed by the Quebec National Assembly in the spring of 2008.
This tax now appears on Videotron’s monthly invoices, and it applies to applicable phone service rates.
For more information, see the Agence municipale de financement et de développement des centres d’urgence 911 du Québec.
