The benefits of optical fibre, across your home or neighbourhood.
In Québec, Videotron’s network includes more than 40,000 km of optical fibre, roughly equivalent to the circumference of the Earth. From head ends to data centres and residential neighbourhoods, all facilities are 100% interconnected by fibre optics.
Depending on the region and sector, our network is either FTTH (Fibre To The Home) or HFC (Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial). In the latter case, when approaching residential areas, the signal sent to the optical fibre passes through an optical node, which adapts the signal for transmission to the coaxial cable. This cable is, ultra-efficient, ensuring the short connection path to each home.
Designed for today’s needs and ready for the future, our network is based on a combination of cutting-edge technologies offering you an optimized connection.
Power, speed, reliability.
It’s in our fibre.
Take advantage of the Internet powered by fibre, without compromise.*
Combining the latest technologies
Combining these technologies allows us to optimize each connection according to your needs, for a fast, stable, and uncompromising Internet experience adapted to the majority of households and uses.
Fibre: speed and reliability
Fibre optics transport data at the speed of light. As a result, you benefit from ultra-fast throughput, minimal latency, and optimal stability for your online activities, even with multiple users connected simultaneously.
Coaxial: robustness and efficiency
Coaxial cable is a high-performance, stable, and upgradeable technology, especially when integrated into a fibre network. It is ultra-resistant and easy to repair, and can carry high data rates of up to 10 Gbps to meet customers’ needs.
Powerful Wi-Fi: reliable coverage
A high-performance network doesn’t stop at the wire that feeds it. Cutting-edge Wi-Fi enables an ultra-fast, seamless connection in every room of your home, plus intelligent management of connected devices to avoid loss of speed.
Frequently asked questions about optical fibre
Optical fibre is a transmission medium as thin as a hair. It is made of silica or plastic, with a protective coating. It enables digital data to be transported by light signals with immense throughput and minimal attenuation.
Some areas of the Videotron network offer fibre-to-the-home (FTTH). To find out if this applies to you, consult the map and directory of cities and municipalities served by region as part of Operation High Speed.
And if your area is covered by our HFC (Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial) network, you should know that your connection still includes fibre optics, so you can benefit too.
Yes. New extensions to Videotron’s network are made of optical fibre, and fibre deployments to replace certain areas of the HFC (Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial) network are evolving every year.
The coaxial infrastructure is already widely deployed, enabling us to offer high-performance Internet connections to many households without waiting for a full rollout of fibre-to-the-home.
Coaxial therefore allows us to increase speeds to meet modern needs, with the possibility of upgrading to even higher speeds without major infrastructure changes.
