Your Wi Fi Pods

Wi-Fi pods improve your Wi-Fi network’s coverage throughout the home. They help, for example, prevent weaker signals in certain rooms.

Wi-Fi pods only work with Helix Internet. Not subscribed to Helix? Check out our tips for improving your Wi-Fi network.

Wi-Fi pod components

  1. Ethernet port
You can connect devices directly to your Wi-Fi pods. A wired connection helps stabilize the connection, if need be.
  2. Status LED

Indicator light that shows the pod’s status.

    Off:
Have you plugged your pod in, but the light is still off? If the indicator light doesn’t come on, it probably means that there’s no power.

Is the power on? Your pod has been connected to the Wi-Fi network. You can confirm this by looking up the pod in your Helix Fi application.

    Continuous flashing:
Have you plugged your pod in and are now getting a flashing light? The pod is connecting to your network (activation).

Did the light start flashing after the pod was connected to your network? Your pod is no longer being detected. Fix this problem using your Helix Fi mobile app.

Good to know
When plugging in your Wi-Fi pods, make sure the Ethernet port is facing down. That way dust won’t accumulate in the socket.

How many Wi-Fi pods do you need?

The number of pods to install may vary based on your needs. How much Wi-Fi coverage do you need?

Recommended: 3 pods

For most Quebec homes, 3 pods in addition to the Helix gateway are enough. They will help prevent weak signals and stabilize your Internet connection.

Specific requirements

You will need 1 or 2 pods to cover one or two areas. For example, you could install a pod in your kitchen to extend the coverage to the outdoor patio.

You will need 4 or more pods to cover a very large home, depending on its height, area and number of rooms.

How many Wi-Fi pods 2 do you need?

The number of pods to install may vary based on your needs. How much Wi-Fi coverage do you need?

Recommended: one Wi-Fi pod 2

For most Quebec homes, for example a one or two-story home with three to four bedrooms, a single Wi-Fi pod 2 is enough. It will help prevent weak signals in the rooms furthest from the Helix Fi gateway and stabilize your Internet connection.

Specific requirements

To get full coverage throughout a very large house with five or more bedrooms, you may need two pods, depending on how big the rooms are, the thickness of the walls and what they’re made of.

Wi-Fi pods cannot be installed outside, but a pod installed in the room next to your patio or deck will extend the coverage outdoors

Frequently asked questions about Wi-Fi pods

Wi-Fi pods 2 are the second generation of pods – they provide enhanced and expanded coverage. They have two Ethernet ports instead of one, as well as tri-band technology that, combined with automatic channel optimization, provides superior coverage and speed.

Yes. You can pair the Wi-Fi pods 2 with both the black Helix Fi gateway and the white Helix Fi 2 gateway. You can also have first- and second-generation Wi-Fi pods working together on your network.

Wi-Fi pods extend the Wi-Fi range in your home to reach areas where the signal is weak. They’re not designed to provide your maximum plan speed everywhere in your home. For example, if your plan is up to 100 Mbps, the pods will not necessarily deliver that speed throughout your entire home. However, they will make it possible to connect devices to your Wi-Fi in areas that didn’t use to get coverage.
