What is the Full Network Test feature?
With the Full Network Test, a Helix Fi app feature, you can test the connection of all your devices to your Helix Fi or Helix Fi 2 Wi-Fi gateway to ensure that the coverage properly meets your needs.
You can test your entire Wi-Fi network or a particular device. When connection issues are detected, the Full Network Test provides you with tips to improve the situation yourself.
Note: You can access the Full Network Test feature using the Helix Fi app on an iOS or Android mobile device.
Just installed Wi-Fi pods? For optimal results, it’s best to wait a few days before running the test.
Testing your Wi-Fi network connection
Since the total test time is proportional to the number of connected devices, we recommend using the test for a specific device if you only want information about the performance of one device.
- Launch the Helix Fi app on your mobile device.
- Select the Connect tab.
- In the Test your Internet section, tap Run a test.
The full test is performed in two stages:
- Testing the gateway’s network connection: For approximately 10 seconds, the Full Network Test only verifies that the network connection is functional.
- Testing all the devices connected to the Helix Fi gateway: For approximately 30 seconds per device, the Full Network Test assesses the performance of each device by sending empty packets to allow an estimate of the flow of data achieved.
The results are presented for each device using colour dots:
- Green: Good
- Orange: Acceptable
- Red: Weak
Testing the connection of a specific device
- Launch the Helix Fi app on your mobile device.
- Select the Connect tab and scroll to the bottom of the screen.
- Tap on the device to be tested and select Resolve Device-Related Issues. The test will be launched automatically.
The test takes approximately 30 seconds. The results display the device’s connection performance for certain usage scenarios using a colour code:
- Green: Good
- Orange: Acceptable
- Red: Weak
If iCloud Private Relay is enabled on your Apple devices, you will be able to see simplified connection quality test results, but not the type of activity the devices could support. We recommend that you disable iCloud Private Relay to take full advantage of the Full Network Test feature.
Frequently asked questions about the Full Network Test feature
Certain conditions may prevent running a Wi-Fi test. Verify:
- That another full network test is not already in progress
- That the device being tested is not paused or inactive
- That the device being tested is properly connected to the Helix Fi gateway (for example, if a mobile phone is using the LTE network, the test cannot be performed)
As the Full Network Test feature is being implemented in phases, not everyone may have access to this new feature at the same time. You should, however, be able to take advantage of it very soon.
