What is Chromecast?
Chromecast technology lets you stream multimedia content from a mobile device or computer to a TV.
Chromecast can be used as an external device that connects to a TV HDMI port or as a built-in feature on a smart TV.
Equipment required to use Chromecast
To stream with Chromecast, you need one of the following devices:
- A Chromecast stick plugged into a TV
- A Google TV Streamer box plugged into a TV
- A smart TV with Chromecast built-in
You’ll also need a smartphone, tablet, or computer, because that’s where you’ll stream content from.
All devices used must be connected to the same Internet network via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Connecting your Chromecast
If you use a Chromecast stick, you’ll need to plug it into the TV you want to stream content to.
- Plug the Chromecast into an HDMI port on your TV.
- Connect the USB power cable to your Chromecast.
- Connect the other end of the power cable to a USB port on your TV, or to a power outlet using the AC adapter.
Configuring your Chromecast
You’ll need to set up Chromecast the first time you use it.
- Launch Chromecast on your TV.
- Stick or box: If you don’t see the Chromecast home screen, change the source by pressing the TV Input or Source button on your remote.
- Chromecast built-in: Use your TV’s app menu.
- An identification number will be displayed.
- On your mobile phone or tablet, launch the Google Home app (make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device).
- Follow the instructions.
Streaming content with the Helix TV app
Once you’ve set up Chromecast, you can stream content from your mobile device or computer.
Streaming from a mobile device
- Make sure your mobile device is connected to the same Internet network as Chromecast.
- On your mobile device, launch the Helix TV app.
- Tap the Chromecast icon in the upper right corner.
Streaming content from a computer
- Make sure the computer is connected to the same Internet network as Chromecast.
- Launch the Chrome browser on your computer, then access Web TV.
- From the browser menu, in the upper right corner, click More > Cast.
Available content
The majority of content available on the Helix TV app can be streamed via Chromecast. However, depending on your location, some content may be inaccessible. Learn more.
Resolving Chromecast streaming issues
Don’t see the Chromecast icon in the app or content isn’t streaming? Follow these troubleshooting steps:
- Check to make sure the device streaming the content (your mobile device or computer) and Chromecast are connected to the same Internet network.
- Make sure Chromecast is activated and initial setup is complete.
- Restart the mobile device or computer you want to stream content from.
- Unplug the Chromecast device, wait a few seconds, then reconnect it.
- Restart your Helix Fi gateway or Wi-Fi router.
Issue still not resolved?
- If you are using an Android device, enable location services.
- If you are using an Apple device, enable Bluetooth (in Settings > Bluetooth).
- Check the light on your Chromecast device.
