Do I have limits on my data usage?
When you use mobile data, you’ll be charged extra if you exceed the data included in your plan or Data Add-on:
- $50 for data overage on the Videotron and partner networks
- $100 for data usage while roaming in Canada or abroad
You’ll still be able to use the Mobile network to make calls, but additional fees will apply.
Good to know
Internet usage is measured in gigabytes (GB), megabytes (MB) or kilobytes (KB). 1 gigabyte (GB) = 1024 megabytes (MB). 1 megabyte (MB) = 1024 kilobytes (KB).
How can I monitor the caps on overage charges?
There are several tools you can use to monitor your mobile data usage status and check if you’ve reached the limit on overage charges.
To help you monitor your data usage, you’ll automatically receive notifications by SMS:
- A first notification tells you that you’re about to reach your plan’s data limit.
- A second notification tells you that you’ve reached your limit and that pay-per-use rates will now apply.
A third notification tells you that you’re about to reach the cap set for data overage charges:
You’ll be sent a text message when you’ve accumulated $40 in overage charges on the Videotron or partner network: you’ll still have $10 of data usage left before you reach the cap. Upon reaching the data overage limit, your Mobile data service will be suspended until your next invoice period.
You’ll also get a text once you’ve accumulated $80 in data roaming charges in the rest of Canada and abroad: you’ll still have $20 of data use left before you reach the cap. Upon reaching the data overage limits, your Mobile data service will be suspended until your next billing period.
If you find yourself exceeding your plan’s mobile data on a regular basis, your Mobile plan might not be right for you. You can switch to a different one that better suits your needs.
The Customer Centre
You can also check your mobile data usage in near real-time in the Customer Centre. Go to the usage section for the service you subscribe to:
- Mobile Data Add-on
- Mobile Internet
How do I opt out of the caps on my mobile data usage?
You have flexibility when it comes to opting out of these caps. You can disable the cap for data overage on the Videotron network and the partner network, or you can disable the cap for data usage while roaming in the rest of Canada and abroad, or you can disable both.
Once you’ve opted out of a cap, your usage will be unlimited and you will be billed for overage on a per-use basis. If you want to reactivate your data limit again, you can reset the caps in your Customer Centre.

Your choices regarding data usage limits will remain in place from one month to the next, unless you change them. If you want to remove your data limit for the current month only, contact Technical Support.
